History of Baccarat

The game of Baccarat dates back to the Middle Ages around 1490. It developed in France where it became very popular and was known as 'chemin de fer.'

A name by which it is still referred to today.

The only difference between the game is that in Chemin de fer the banker rotates among the players with the casino taking a fee from each hand. This give the casino no risk.

The game crossed the Atlantic to America and once it hit Las Vegas it never stopped. The popularity of the game there is incredibly high.

The word "baccarat" in both French and Italian means "zero" and the reason for this is due to the face cards being worth zero in value.

Throughout the ages, Baccarat has been played mainly by the aristocracy and high rollers. The casinos wanted to open up the game to others and did that by creating mini-baccarat with is basically the same game as Baccarat only much faster.

This is the same game that secret agent, James Bond played. His class and glamor did much for the game with hundreds turning up in tuxedos and wanting to play with the same style and panache that 007 did.
